How To Live Forever – Colin Thompson
AUTHOR & ILLUSTRATOR- Colin Thompson
There is a library with 1000 rooms and it has copies of every book that has ever been written. One book is missing though. Two hundred years ago, somebody had hidden the record card of the book in a cabinet and so the book disappeared. Every night when the entire world slept, the shelves in the library came alive, doors and windows appeared on the books, lights flickered on, dogs barked, voices could be heard between the pages and the shelves began getting joined with ladders and staircases. The entire library turned into a small city.
Peter, a boy lives inside one of the books ‘Quinces in the cookery shelf’. He finds the record card of the missing book and the title reads, “HOW TO LIVE FOREVER OR IMMORTALITY FOR BEGINNERS”. ‘Immortal’…..Peter loved the word and starts searching for the book. After a long search, Peter finds four men who are old and who have the book. But what strikes him, is how the four could read the book and still grow old? What is the reason for their aging?
Does Peter himself read the book?
WHAT CHILDREN CAN TAKE AWAY FROM THIS BOOK
The story is a lesson on immortality, of how change is constant and required. In the author’s own words, ‘To live forever means not to live at all.” Bringing a city live between book shelves through amazing illustrations makes it a spellbinding experience
